To qualify for a job you obviously need to have the necessary
qualifications and technical skills. However, there are two key
attributes which many jobseekers do not fully appreciate in the
context of recruitment and job search:

Likeability, and
o
Attitude
Likeability:
Put
very plainly, if a potential employer does not like you, or feels
that you will not fit in with the organisation, then your education,
qualifications and skills will sadly count for nothing in his/her
eyes.
Recruiters, and more so employers, will often make up their minds
either positively or negatively within seconds or minutes of meeting
a candidate. This may seem unfair but the reality is that its human
nature and most people are like that.
In everyday life, people the world over instantaneously take to an
individual or conversely, have great difficulty in connecting with
or liking them. This immediate assessment that people make even
happens over the phone.
Attitude:
Most
employers, particularly in the private sector and small to medium
sized businesses, want workers who will contribute positively to
their organisation rather than be focused on what they can get out
of the company. In most situations they will prefer candidates with
a positive attitude who are capable of learning the required skills
quickly, rather than to recruit a candidate who is a know-all.
